I don't mean to be an ass, but are you guys really going to defend the following, esp the fifth line from the bottom (FYI, the HeLives thread a few days ago was about this in detail):

Gazing at the fire
Burning by the water
Before he speaks, the world around us quiets
With eyes as sharp as arrows
And turning to the fire
He clears the air and cuts it with a feather

Many in a circle
Slowly round the fire
When he is gone, I want to know him better
No one is forsaken
No one is a liar
He plants the tree of life on our foreheads with water

He hums
There are drums
Four winds
Rising suns
We are singing and playing
I hear what he's saying
I remember breezes
From winds inside your body
Keep me high
Like I told you
I'll sing to them this story
And know why

As a student of esoteric spirituality for over 25 years I can tell you that there is some deep rooted messages in that song, the four winds "inside your body" are key to releasing the spirit from the material.

And stating your opinion respectfully and openly should never be considered "making a ass of yourself". As long as you respect the spirit with which the answer is returned.

Fair enough; I guess it is my "anti-spirituality" coming thru, so I take all such things as farce. Somehow, turning water to wine is just metaphor (probably due to western upbringing biases), but these lines strike me as silly...you're right, if I was better acquainted with the context, they might not.

Nonetheless, I do find all such spiritualism fundamentally problematic, the great irony being that those rooted in naturalism are even more self-evidently contradictory...

Sorry--probably offending now, so I'll get off the soapbox.

Does this mean I'm in trouble? Hmmm--all I can say is that those brits, on average, are Godless F**ks...like me...(Mando will explain if necessary), so with luck the prom date is not imperiled. Or, at least we have quite a bit to discuss on spirituality.

tell her she looks like an angel(very spiritual) and remember...alcohol to break the ice (if not for alcohol, I'd still be a virgin)

but call it something nice like those highfalutin scotch names or the finewines. And remember, this advice is from a man who can't even get a date :P

I want the angel
Whose dreams are fatal
They cause the snake's milk to run and curdle

I want the angel
Whose darkness doubles
It absorbs the brilliance of all my troubles

I want the angel
That will not shatter
Every time I whisper, "Girl it does not matter"

I want the angel
Who's got the proof
She signals her devotion from the rails on the roof

I want the angel
That comes to stay
She don't let lawyers and ambition lead her away

I want the angel
Whose eyes are raving
Who takes what I'm giving and not what I'm saving

I want the angel
Whose bones are so sharp
That they can break through their own excuses

Well, to be a blind man,
Hey, that would be a fine thing
Then I could dream at night of total strangers
And all the music would be so spaceless
And all the women would be so faceless,
They'd be so faceless they'd be like old film
Just like old film I never did process....

I prefer:

Helplessly hoping her harlequin hovers nearby
Awaiting a word
Gasping at glimpses of gentle true spirit
He runs, wishing he could fly
Only to trip at the sound of goodbye

Wordlessly watching, he waits by the window
And wonders at the empty place inside
Heartlessly helping himself to her bad dreams
He worries, did he hear a goodbye
Or even hello

They are one person
They are two alone
They are three together
They are for each other

Stand by the stairway, you'll see something
Certain to tell you confusion has its cost
Love isn't lying, it's loose in a lady
Who lingers, saying she is lost
And choking on hello

Or:

When the winter rains
come pourin' down
On that new home of mine,
Will you think of me
and wonder if I'm fine?
Will your restless heart
come back to mine
On a journey thru the past.
Will I still be in your eyes
and on your mind?

Now I'm going back to Canada
On a journey thru the past
And I won't be back
till February comes
I will stay with you
if you'll stay with me,
Said the fiddler to the drum,
And we'll keep good time
on a journey thru the past.

When the winter rains
come pourin' down
On that new home of mine,
Will I still be in your eyes
and on your mind?
Will I still be in your eyes
and on your mind?

Lets hope Miss D feels the same...

And I prefer: :)

Lesson in Survival
Spinning out on turns
That gets you tough
Guru books-the Bible
Only a reminder
That you're just not good enough
You need to believe in something
Once I could in our love

Black road
Double yellow line
Friends and kin
Campers in the kitchen
That's fine sometimes
But I know my needs
My sweet tumbleweed
I need more quiet times
By a river flowing
You and me
Deep kisses
And the sun going down

Maybe it's paranoia
Maybe it's sensitivity
Your friends protect you
Scrutinize me
I get so damn timid
Not at all the spirit
That's inside of me
Oh baby I can't seem to make it
With you socially
There's this reef around me

I'm looking way out at the ocean
Love to see that green water in motion
I'm going to get a boat
And we can row it
If you ever get the notion
To be needed by me
Fresh salmon frying
And the tide rolling in

I went to see a friend tonight
'Was very late when I walked in
My talking as it rambled
Revealed suspicious reasoning
The visit seemed to darken him
I came in as bright
As a neon light
And I burned out
Right there before him

I told him these things
I'm telling you now
Watched them buckle up
In his brow
When you dig down deep
You lose good sleep
And it makes you
Heavy company
I will always love you
Hands alike
Magnet and iron
The souls

I really am ashamed...I shudda quoted this:

Out on the lonely hillside
In a cabin low and small
Lived the sweetest rose of color
My Rosa Lee McFall

Her hair was brightsome color
Her voice was sweet to me
I know that I will always love her
And I hope that she loved me

A asked her to be my darling
And this is what she said
You know that I will only be happy
When you and I are wed

Then God way up in heaven
One day for her did call
I lost my bride, oh how I loved her
My Rosa Lee McFall

I've searched the wide world over
Cities great and small
But I've never found another
Like my Rosa Lee McFall

Out on the lonely hillside
In a cabin low and small
Lived the sweetest rose of color
My Rosa Lee McFall

(I woulda lamely substituted "Miss D" since it works for "Rosa Lee" but it don't end in "...all" so I won't. Besides, all this might be getting her worried).

As I walked out one evening,
Walking down Bristol Street,
The crowds upon the pavement
Were fields of harvest wheat.

And down by the brimming river
I heard a lover sing
Under an arch of the railway:
'Love has no ending.

'I'll love you, dear, I'll love you
Till China and Africa meet,
And the river jumps over the mountain
And the salmon sing in the street,

'I'll love you till the ocean
Is folded and hung up to dry
And the seven stars go squawking
Like geese about the sky.

'The years shall run like rabbits,
For in my arms I hold
The Flower of the Ages,
And the first love of the world.'

But all the clocks in the city
Began to whirr and chime:
'O let not Time deceive you,
You cannot conquer Time.

'In the burrows of the Nightmare
Where Justice naked is,
Time watches from the shadow
And coughs when you would kiss.

'In headaches and in worry
Vaguely life leaks away,
And Time will have his fancy
To-morrow or to-day.

'Into many a green valley
Drifts the appalling snow;
Time breaks the threaded dances
And the diver's brilliant bow.

'O plunge your hands in water,
Plunge them in up to the wrist;
Stare, stare in the basin
And wonder what you've missed.

'The glacier knocks in the cupboard,
The desert sighs in the bed,
And the crack in the tea-cup opens
A lane to the land of the dead.

'Where the beggars raffle the banknotes
And the Giant is enchanting to Jack,
And the Lily-white Boy is a Roarer,
And Jill goes down on her back.

'O look, look in the mirror?
O look in your distress:
Life remains a blessing
Although you cannot bless.

'O stand, stand at the window
As the tears scald and start;
You shall love your crooked neighbour
With your crooked heart.'

It was late, late in the evening,
The lovers they were gone;
The clocks had ceased their chiming,
And the deep river ran on.

(and i wonder why i can't get a date)

WIll,

All good things in all good time*S*, if I hadn't been hit by a bus and thrown 30 ft in the air and walked away unscathed I would probably still be sceptical as I was before. But to many "coincidences" surround my life now.

But in such dark times"once in a while you get shown the light' my brother.

A lot of MY teachers created winds inside my body, and, what the hell, I'd let them out in class.

"Makes me hiiiiiiiigh..." ;)
